Devolo dLAN power plugs (www.devolo.co.uk) can extend the internet connection where the existing wi-fi cannot reach. This could be due to thickness of the internal wall in a house, for example. The power plugs are small devices that plug into the mains sockets in the home and allow internet connection over the existing electrical wiring. A pair of the power plugs can be bought from online sellers or PC World (also from Currys & Comet) for about £80.

Power plugs are very simple to install and use. Plug one of the pair next to the broadband router/modem and connect them with an ethernet cable. The other is plugged into power socket in the room where there is no wireless signal and connect the computer to it with another ethernet cable.

To get the best result, plug the Devolos directly into the wall sockets rather than into extension cables.
